My stint is not succession politics: Anbumani

February 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - KANCHEEPURAM:

Former Union Minister and sitting Dharmapuri MP Dr.Anbumani Ramadoss on Friday said his nomination as Chief Ministerial candidate of Pattali Makkal Katchi is not succession politics.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, Dr.Anbumani claimed that his position in politics as a Member of Parliament and Union Minister and now as a sitting MP was purely backed by party cadre’s support.

He pointed out that his father Dr.S.Ramadoss has a limited role in the party as its founder and all crucial decisions were taken in a democratic manner by convening the general body meeting. “Further, he had not served as an elected representative in the political arena. Even my elevation as CM candidate is the outcome of intra-party democracy,” he added.

Responding to a question on intra-party elections, he said conducting elections to the party posts was not the only way to uphold intra-party democracy. It could also be nurtured by filling up the posts by mutual understanding among the contestants, if any, he added.

On implementing total prohibition, Dr.Anbumani regretted that the tendency to get addicted to alcohol has increased among the persons who have completed 15 years.

According to a World Health Organization report, around 11 per cent of total women population aged above 15 years in the State were addicted to alcohol, while the figure stood at 33 per cent with respect to men.
