The 35th annual meet of South Indian History Congress, being organised by the Department of History of Kakatiya University, began here on Friday.
Inaugurating the meet, Tribal Welfare Minister A. Chandulal urged the scholars to research Telangana history which was ignored for decades.
The State was replete with historical sites and known for its rich culture. He said he would strive to develop tourism in the State.
“Telangana will create history by renovating tanks across the State under Mission Kakatiya,” he said.
Mahabubabad MP A. Seetharam Naik, who was the guest of honour, exhorted the historians to preserve history for future generations.
“Warangal district has rich historical background that needs exhaustive study,” he opined.
‘Come up with
suitable projects’
The MP asked the researchers to come up with suitable project proposals for a developmental study of historical sites in and around Warangal. He also urged them to record the history of tribals living in the area who have no script for their language.
Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) Chairperson Y. Sudershan Rao said research should be undertaken not only at the national level, but at regional and local levels. There was need to bring out a comprehensive history of South India and he urged the Congress to take up the job, adding that the ICHR was ready to finance the project.
