Man held on kidnap, rape charges

M. Senthil Kumar (25), a labourer, was arrested by the personnel of All-Women Police Station (West) of Coimbatore City Police, on charges of kidnapping and raping a 17-year-old school student of Town Hall area on Thursday.

He was booked under section 366A (procuration of minor girl) of the Indian Penal Code and 3(a) and 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

According to the preliminary enquiry, it was revealed that the girl’s parents were separated and that she lived with her mother. It is learnt that the victim and Senthil were in love and that he took the girl to his relative’s place in the city, on Tuesday, and raped her.

The police said that the girl’s relatives lodge a complaint that she was missing, as she did not return home till Thursday.

The police came to know that the accused took her with him and traced their whereabouts during the late hours of Thursday.

The victim was rescued, taken for medical examination at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and sent back home with her mother. The accused was arrested and lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
