SGPC chief heads Takhat Saheb prabandhak panel

Avtar Singh Makkar, chief of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, the apex body of Sikhs, took charge as president of prabandhak committee of Takhat Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Saheb on Friday.

PATNA: Avtar Singh Makkar, chief of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, the apex body of Sikhs, took charge as president of prabandhak committee of Takhat Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Saheb on Friday.
Shailendra Singh (Tatanagar) has been appointed senior vice-president while Patna's Kanwaljeet Kaur, Tajinder Singh and Mahinder Singh Chhabra have been appointed junior president, general secretary and secretary respectively.
This committee will have a term of 30 months and will handle the preparation of 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh which is only months away.
The outgoing office-bearers of the committee - R S Gandhi, S R S Jeet, Charanjeet Singh, Maharaj Singh, Guriqbal Singh, Pritpal Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Gurmeet Singh - will remain members of the 15-member prabandhak committee.
With the appointment of Makkar, the prabandhak committee will see appointment of office-bearers who do not belong to Patna, just like the second last committee. Incidentally, the outgoing committee comprised of office-bearers of Patna only.
