A marathon exclusively dedicated to the residents of Secunderabad is all set to be held in the city. The first ‘Deccan-Bison Maratahon 2015’ will see runners pass through various cantonment roads in the Trimulgherry contonment area on March 1. The race is being organised by Telangana runners in two categories, 5 km and 10 km.

“Most of the marathons are happening in either Necklace Road or in Gachibowli but we wanted a marathon in Secunderabad too,” said Bakhtiar Choudhary, a sports doctor and president of the Telangana runners. “We formed an organisation and decided to promote healthy events in the area. We will make this an annual event and aim to introduce half marathon in the next edition.”

The organisers said that the event was being held with the support of the army officials and will be flagged off by R.K. Jagga, VSM, General Officer Commanding of 54th Division. The tentative route of the race includes golf course junction, Bison road, GoC House and Batallion Mess.

The event is non-commercial and participation is not charged, according to the organisers. However, those interested have to register before February 25. The winners will be awarded trophies, certificates and medals.
