Friday release: Varun Dhawan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s ‘Badlapur’, Irrfan Khan’s ‘Qissa’ release today

This Friday we gear up for Varun Dhawan to blow us away with action crime drama, ‘Badlapur’.

After Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Roy’ hit screens last week, this Friday we gear up for Bollywood heartthrob Varun Dhawan to blow us away with action crime drama, ‘Badlapur’.

Directed by Sriram Raghavan who has given us films like ‘Johnny Gaddaar’ and ‘Agent Vinod’, ‘Badlapur stars Varun Dhawan and raw Bollywood talent Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles.

The film tells the tale of a man, Raghav a.k.a Raghu, who witnesses the murder of his wife and son during a robbery. 15 years later, he now knows who took away his family and he’s looking for revenge.

Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Sunil Lulla, ‘Badlapur’ also stars Huma Qureshi, Yami Gautam, Vinay Pathak, Divya Dutta and Radhika Apte.

The film, which has been screened a few times prior to its release, has already received an approving nod from many film fraternity members.

Talking about ‘Badlapur’, Varun Dhawan said, “This film is very entertaining. It is fast-paced and edge-of the-seat thriller. We have taken a lot of risks but we have taken them because it is fun. ‘Badlapur’ will make you feel uncomfortable but in a cool way.”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui added to this saying, “This is not an art or a commercial film this is Raghavan’s film. Every director makes his film with honesty but at time something still remains.”

The next release for this week is Anup Singh’s Indo-German drama, ‘Qissa: The Tale of a Lonely Ghost’ starring Irrfan Khan, Tisca Chopra and Tillotama Shome.

Set in the post-partition period, the film revolves around Umber Singh who is forced to flee his village along with other Sikhs. Here is a man desperately praying for a son, but his daughter delivers three healthy girls.

Finally, when his wife is pregnant once more, Umber is confident that this time he will be blessed with a son. When the child turns out to be a girl, Umber makes a decision to cheat nature and bring his child up as a son.

‘Qissa’ was screened at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival where it won the Netpac Award for World or International Asian Film.
