Action sought against Gauri Lankesh

February 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - Hassan:

Members of the Hassan Zilla Brahmin Sabha on Thursday took out a rally in protest against certain remarks of Gauri Lankesh, journalist, against S.L. Bhyrappa, novelist, and Brahminism in her speech during the 81st Kannada Sahitya Sammelan held recently at Shravanabelagola. They urged the police to register a first information report against Ms. Lankesh for her comments.

C.S. Krishnaswamy, president of the sabha, and its general secretary K.S.N. Murthy, led the protest. In a press release issued here, Mr. Krishnaswamy said that the people who called themselves as progressive often criticised the Brahmin community without any reason. “Sahitya sammelan was a literary meet. Ms. Lankesh and others who spoke on the occasion should have restricted their talk to literature. Instead, they unnecessarily dragged Mr. Bhyrappa’s name and the Brahmin community into their discussion,” he alleged.
