An assistant sub inspector of police from Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) police and a woman have been arrested by the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of city crime branch for smuggling of contraband in city on Wednesday. The police have seized eight kilograms of opium worth Rs 9.60 lakh from the duo.

The arrested couple has been identified as Mohammad Shafi Ghulam Mohammad Hajam, 50, a resident of Bandipura and Ruksana Abdul Masjid Bihari, 34, a resident of Mumbra. Two more Kashmiri natives Ghulam Nabi and Hafeez have been shown as wanted in the case by the police.

According to the officers from the Azad Maidan unit of the ANC, they had received specific information that one Mohammad Hajam would be selling a consignment of opium to a woman known as Ruksana Bihari near a public toilet at Karnac Bunder bridge at Masjid Bunder on Wednesday evening.

A trap was laid at the said place and the duo were apprehended as soon as they arrived at the spot. "Apart from the contraband, an airline ticket receipt, AADHAR card and an identity card of J&K police was seized from Hajam. Interrogation from Hajam revealed that Nabi had given the consignment to Hafeez who then brought the consignment to Mumbai via train and handed it over to Hajam. Hajam would then sell it to Bihari," said crime branch officer, requesting anonymity.
