SSB calls Assam, Nagaland border meet to ease tension
JORHAT: The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has called a joint meeting of Assam and Nagaland administrations in Golaghat on Friday, to discuss the Assam-Nagaland border dispute and check the frequent Naga attacks on Assam villagers along the frontier.
The meeting will be held at Chetia gaon in Golaghat.
Some armed Naga miscreants reportedly built six thatched huts in the Rajapukhuri area, about 75 km from Golaghat district headquarters, under Sector-B of the disputed inter-state boundary by encroaching Assam land on last Monday.

The SSB, in association with CRPF and Assam police, demolished the temporary structures and chased the Naga encroachers away from the site on Tuesday.
Deputy commissioner (Golaghat) Nitin Khade said the SSB and other security forces have already damaged the temporary structures erected by Naga miscreants and has brought the situation under control.
“The SSB has called a joint meeting of Assam and Nagaland administrations tomorrow (Friday) to find a solution to the border disputes,” he said.
“We will also talk about rehabilitation of the displaced people, taking shelter in the relief camps. We hope that the homeless would be shifted to their respective villages soon.”

Over 1,061 people from 245 families have been living in Rajapukhuri relief camp since August 12, 2014, after Nagas miscreants attacked their villages. At least 11 people were killed and thousands rendered homeless when a group of armed Naga miscreants attacked Assamese villagers and burnt their houses in the district. The situation was brought under control when the chief ministers of both the states held a meeting in Guwahati and the Centre intervened to find a solution. SSB troops were also deployed in the border after the incident.
Meanwhile, the All Assam Students’ Union slammed both the Centre and the state government for their failures to solve the border disputes. Aasu Golaghat district unit has called an executive meeting of its members on Thursday to discuss the matter.
