AU stresses need of multi-specialty hospital
ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad University has given a reply to the HR ministry on Wednesday on a proposal of setting up a hospital in the university and also highlighted the pathetic condition of the lone dispensary. It may be recalled that the university was devoid of medical faculty in July 2008, when Motilal Nehru Medical College was delinked from Allahabad University.
A ray of hope was rekindled due to the effort of a former student Shreyansh Tripathi. He has taken up the issue of starting a medical faculty and a state-of-the-art hospital with the Central ministers and PMO. Tripathi had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for establishing a well-equipped hospital. Following Tripathi’s representation, HRD ministry had written a letter to the registrar on January 28, seeking comments on the state of health facilities in the university. In response to the letter, registrar B P Singh has stressed the need of a hospital for the university as there are over 50,000 students and over 3,500 officials. The registrar also stated that the university has only one primary health centre with just one full-time medical consultant and two part-time consultants and that too only for hours two hours i.e. one homeopathic and one allopathic doctor. The registrar also stressed on the need of a multi-specialty hospital to meet the medical requirements. TOI has time and again raised the condition of the dispensary located at AN Jha Hostel which is plagued by the shortage of doctors and other supporting staff. “I am going to Delhi to meet the home minister, the HRD minister and health minister and apprise them about the medical requirement of the country,” Shreyansh said.
