“The Twilight Saga” wrapped in 2012, but the phenomenon is yet to die down altogether. This means that, every once in a while, former leading couple Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, are asked about it, about what is like to have starred in the most famous and, at the same time, most ridiculed vampire franchise in history.

Kristen’s most recent interview, with the latest edition of Interview magazine, is no exception. The only difference is that, this time, Kristen is done being polite or evasive in her answer: she’s damned proud of those films and of having been part of them. Haters be damned!

The Bella Swan legacy

In case you somehow missed out on the whole “Twilight” madness (lucky you!), here’s how we would sum it up: the films are based on Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling novels and tell the love story of a mortal girl, Bella Swan (Stewart) and a 107-year-old vegetarian vampire Edward Cullen (Pattinson).

As the story progresses, they move on from lovers to spouses and then equals, as he turns her into a vampire too. They also have a kid, conceived when Bella was still a mortal, which poses a serious threat to the entire vampire “community” and gets them in trouble with the ruling clan of the Volturi.

The films were harshly criticized by critics for their cringe-worthy dialog and faulty plotlines, but also for the bad acting, which, in Stewart’s case, often led to comparisons to a piece of wood - a lip-biting piece of wood, to be more exact.

The fans loved the films, though: they loved them so much that they turned the “Saga” into one of the most successful film franchises of all times, and Pattinson and Stewart into Hollywood’s newest favorite young actors. They got rich in the process too.

Kristen Stewart is proud of her work in “Twilight”

Kristen didn’t do “Twilight” only for the money though, she is quick to point out in this new interview. She agreed to play the role of Bella because she believed in her as a character and because she could, on some level, relate to what she must have been going through.

So to hell with all those who say “Twilight” is a ridiculous film franchise that amounts to nothing more but a complete waste of time and money, because, for her, it means so much more.

“Anybody who wants to talk [expletive] about Twilight, I completely get it,” she says, “but there's something there that I'm endlessly, and to this day, [expletive]-ing proud of. My memory of it felt - still feels - really good.”

She doesn’t think that her being part of “Twilight” and her more recent focus on indies means that she wasn’t a “serious” actor then, just like she refuses to see a disconnect between the role of Bella and, say, her turns in “Still Alice,” “Camp X-Ray” or “Clouds of Sils Maria.”

All the roles she’s ever done have one very important thing in common: they are a part of her, they have helped her become the person she is today. So it’s unfair to compare Bella with her other characters and say that she’s somehow inferior to them, because she cherishes all of them equally.
