Two children drowned in a tank near Kadiri town on Wednesday.

The Kadiri police told The Hindu that the two children, Lokesh Naik (13) and Mallesh (12), from Kadiri town, left home in the afternoon on Wednesday.

Since the children did not return home till evening, the parents and relatives of the two frantically searched them.

Around midnight, the Kadiri police said, the relatives of the boys found out their clothes on the bund of the Peerla Kunta tank, about four km Kadiri.

The police recovered the bodies of the two children from the tank around 4 a.m.on Thursaday morning.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, the police added.

Incidentally, 'Peera Kunta' is the only tank in the entire Kadiri division to be holding water, even during the days of acute water scarcity, owing to water repellent nature of the tank bed soil.
