February 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

A farmer was sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a woman.

According to Public Prosecutor M.S. Dorai Muthuraj, farmer M. Velsamy (45) of Paimpozhil under Achchanputhur police station limits had an extra-marital affair with G. Sankarammal of Vallanaadu and settled her down in a place near his village. When Velsamy’s relatives threatened Sankarammal to snap her relationship with him, she asked Velusamy not to visit her anymore.

Murder

Agitated over this, Velsamy murdered Sankarammal on March 12, 2009, and dumped the body in a farm.

On seeing the body in their farm, a group of people removed it and threw it in Hanuman river.

While acquitting those who removed the body and dumped it in the river for want of evidence, Third Additional Sessions Judge Muthukrishnan sentenced Velsamy to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on him.
