JAMMU, Feb 18: In less than a month the India and China troops today held Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) at Chinese BPM hut in Moldo Garrison in Chushul sector of Eastern Ladakh in which both sides committed themselves to uphold treaties and agreements signed between the Governments of the two countries.
They also decided to maintain peace and tranquility along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh.
Official sources said the officers and jawans of Indian Army and People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China held the meeting that last about two hours in cordial atmosphere.
“A ceremonial Border Personal Meeting (BPM) was held today between Indian Army and Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) of China on the occasion of ‘Chinese Spring Festival'”, Defence spokesman Col SD Goswami said.
Delegations led by Brigadier VS Rawat from Indian Army and Senior Colonel Fanjun from China’s PLA held meeting at Chinese BPM hut in Moldo Garrison of PLA in Chushul Sector of Eastern Ladakh, he said.
The meeting included the ceremonial address by leaders of delegation from both sides which was composed of exchange of greetings. It reflected mutual desire of maintaining and improving relations at the functional level on the border, the spokesman said.
“They interacted in a free, congenial and cordial environment and parted amidst feeling of friendship and commitment towards enhancing the existing cordial relations and maintaining peace along the LAC,” he said.
Both sides also sought to build on mutual feeling of upholding the treaties and agreements signed between the Governments of the two countries to maintain peace and tranquility along the LAC.
“Thereafter, a cultural programme showcasing vibrant Chinese culture and traditional grandeur was organised by the PLA,” the spokesman said.
The last meeting between the two sides was held in the same sector of Ladakh on January 26 on the occasion of India’s Republic Day, which was celebrated by both the sides. The two sides had agreed to maintain peace and tranquility on the LAC.
According to sources, today also, the officers of two Armies decided to build on mutual feeling of upholding the treaties and agreements signed between the Governments of the two countries and agreed to stick to peace on the LAC.
It may be mentioned here that incidents of incursions in Ladakh sector have come down considerably during the past two months. Earlier, such incidents had almost become a routine in Ladakh as there was no demarcated boundary between the two countries.
