Nagpur: Moral policing proved costly for 40-year-old Gurmit Singh Babra, a resident of Kamptee road Gurudwara, Sadar. He was booked for allegedly passing comments on a 20-year-old girl and abusing her boyfriend at Seminary Hills garden on Tuesday evening.
Police said a 20-year-old girl and her friend had gone to Seminary Hills garden on Tuesday evening. The duo were sitting near Balodyan railway track when Babra approached them and started shouting at them.
‘Yeha pe rangraliya manane aate ho’ (you come here for indulging in obscene behaviour), he shouted at them and slapped the youth accompanying the girl. He also forced the youth to do sit-ups. When the girl objected to this, Babra caught hold of her hand and indulged in some vulgar action.
Police said Babra, who works at a private firm, claimed he was a social activist. “He claimed he had caught the duo in objectionable situation in public place where many children come to play, which forced him to raise objection,” said the police. Gittikhadan police station sources told TOI the girl informed of the incident to police control room. Later a team of Gittikhadan police reached there.
On the basis of the girl’s complaint, Gittikhadan police arrested Babra under sections 354, 323, 294 of the IPC. On Wednesday morning, he obtained bail from the court.
