Along with BJP, will become a decisive force in Bengal in a few years: ABVP

'BJP has to play the right role as an alternative.'

On the sidelines of a convention of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the students’ wing of RSS, K N Raghunandan, national joint organising secretary of ABVP said their outfit along with the BJP would be a decisive force in the political scenario of Bengal in the future.

“We are an independent organisation but both ABVP and BJP belong to the same school of thought and we will do whatever we can to bring it to power in Bengal but all political parties should understand the mood of society. We can’t say everything will change overnight. This year we got elected in many colleges. We don’t say we will be a decisive force next year but we will surely be in a few years down the line,” he told The Indian Express.

Commenting on the BJP’s role in Bengal, he said, “BJP has to play the right role as an alternative. We would be backing them up as a students’ organisation which would work for a political change.”

He said though ABVP has been existing in the state for the past 35 to 40 years, in the last one to two years, its popularity has increased considerably and added that a lot remains to be done. “Through this convention, we will deliver the message to the students and youth community that ABVP wants to instil democratic values among students and youth,” he said.

Raghunandan said that the ABVP would adopt a three-pronged tactic — constructive activities, putting up agitation programmes and partaking in students’ elections.

Festive offer

Talking about the recent incidents of campus violence in the state, he said, “The ruling party is unleashing violence because the ABVP wants a democratic setup. TMC has adopted this policy from its predecessors.”

Shreehari Borikar, ABVP national secretary told The Indian Express that the zeal and anger were visible among students and youth against the ruling government which would lead to a change.

“We will create awareness among students that ABVP was determined to bring about a good academic atmosphere and quality education in West Bengal. Students have the right to facilities such as e-library and regional library,” he said.
