Independent candidate among 15 to file nominations for J&K MLC polls

JAMMU :  As many as 15 candidates, including an independent, today filed their nomination papers for the MLC elections, scheduled to be held here on March 2.    As BJP and PDP decided to contest the MLC polls to 11-seats on seat sharing formula, six PDP and five BJP candidates and two National Conference and an independent today filed the nomination papers before Assembly Secretary Mohammad Ramzan.
The PDP candidates namely Surinder Choudhary (Nowshera), Firdous Tak (Kishtwar), Javed Mircha (Karnah), Saif u din Bhat (Khan Sahib), Yasir Reshi (Sonawari) and Henay Ali (Kargil) filed their nominations.
BJP candidates Ramesh Arora, Charanjit Singh Khalsa, Vibodh Gupta, Chering Dorje, Darakshan Andrabi and Sofi Yusuf filed the nomination while from National Conference Sajjad Ahmad Lone and Qaiser Jamshed Lone filed the papers.    Independent candidate Ajay Singh Chandel was also in the  party.
Later, speaking to the media, PDP spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said the deliberations between PDP and BJP are in progress and new government formation will soon take place.    BJP State President Jugal Kishore Sharma said dialogue is on between both the parties and the final decision on government formation and settling other issues will be taken by the party high command.
Earlier in Rajya Sabha also, both BJP and PDP contested on seat sharing basis in which PDP won two seats but BJP lost, as Congress candidate Ghulam Nabi Azad was re-elected as RS member.
Candidates can withdraw theri names by February 21 and the counting will be held on March 2.     M K Ajatshatru Singh (Jammu Province), B R Kundal (Jammu Province), Syed Asgar Ali (Jammu Province), Narboo Gialchan (Ladakh Tehsil of Kashmir Province), Aga Syed Ahmad Rizvi (Kargil Tehsil of Kashmir Province), Vijay Bakaya (Kashmir Province), Syed Mohammad Rafiq Shah (Kashmir Province) and Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy (Jammu Province) are retiring between March 9 and 16, necessitating the biennial election.    The bypoll to the Legislative Council was necessitated after Mohammad Ashraf Mir (Kashmir Province), Abdul Majeed Bhat (Kashmir Province) and Devender Singh Rana (Jammu Province) were elected to the Legislative Assembly, held last year.
