HUBBALLI/DHARWAD/BELGAUM: Devotees thronged Ishwar temples across the districts and offered special prayers on the occasion of Mahashivaratri. The century-old Eshwar temple at Someshwar, Nagareshwar temple in Mangalwar Pet, Shivalaya in Koppadakeri, Haliyal road and Kelgeri road in Dharwad saw large number of devotees lining up in long queues to have a 'darshan' of Lord Shiva.

In Hubballi devotees thronged Siddharoodh mutt, Eshwar temple on Station Road and Kashi Vishwanath temple of Paraswadi. Hotelier Ramesh Kumar said that he came in the morning to perform rituals on the day. "It was a huge crowd. I had to wait for three hours to get entry inside the temple."
As people fast on this day, dates, watermelon, apple, banana, grapes and other fruit stalls near temples did brisk business.
The historical Kapileshwar temple in Belagavi known as the Dakshin Kashi saw huge crowds, . Adi Shankaracharya is said to have visited this temple.
