SSI dies of cardiac arrest

Special Sub-Inspector of Police S. Sankaran (48), who had been attached to Gangaikondan police station, died of massive cardiac arrest on Monday night.

After the end of his duty hours, Sankaran was preparing to leave for his native place, Mudivaithanenthal in Tuticorin district. As he suddenly developed severe chest pain, he was rushed to a private hospital on North Bypass Road here. However, he died in the hospital.

Chain snatched

Unidentified robbers snatched a gold chain, worth about Rs. 1.40 lakh, from a woman at Tiruvenkatam on Monday night.

Police said E. Jayalakshmi of NGO Colony in Tiruvenkatam opened the door of her house on Monday night when unidentified persons pelted stones on the door. As soon as she opened the door, the robbers snatched her gold chain, weighing 44 grams, and escaped. Though she screamed for help, the robbers could not be nabbed.

Tiruvenkatam police registered a case.
