Rs. 1100 cr. sought for women, child welfare programmes

Minister for Women Empowerment and Child Welfare Peethala Sujatha on Tuesday urged the Centre to provide enhanced funds to Andhra Pradesh in the Union Budget.

Ms. Sujatha met Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi in Delhi and submitted proposals seeking funds to the tune of Rs.1100 crore. She explained in detail to Ms. Gandhi various ongoing schemes and programmes being taken up in Andhra Pradesh for women empowerment and child welfare.

According to a press release, the Union Minister congratulated Ms. Sujatha on successful implementation of ICDS schemes in Andhra Pradesh, particularly for elimination of malnutrition among women and children and reduction of IMR and MMR.

Ms. Sujatha submitted a memorandum for enhancing honorarium to Anganwadi workers and helpers and also for increasing the pension amount to the retired workers. She also sought Rs.874 crore for construction of Anganwadi buildings. She also submitted proposals for Rs.1.70 crore for publicity campaign planned to be conducted under ‘Beti Bachao – Beti Padao’ programme of GOI in Kadapa District.   

She invited the Union Minster to Andhra Pradesh to witness the implementation of the women and child welfare programmes.
