NIFT’s annual fest is beginning today, presenting a variety of events including their much-awaited fashion show. Their fest, Spectrum, supported by the Times of India, is being held from February 18-21.
The three-day event this year has been quirkily titled The Creative Herd, and will have a battle of bands, and group and solo dance competitions with participants from colleges across Delhi.
The events are divided into cultural, fashion and design, film and photography and literary and fun categories.
One of the highlights of the fest is the street play event, accompanied by the beats of the dholak with plays usually talking about societal issues. The photography and filmmaking competitions give a chance to budding photographers and filmmakers to show their creative talent through frames captured by their lenses.
The fashion show usually takes place on Day 2 of Fashion Spectrum. It showcases the creativity of the sixth semester students of the Fashion Design, Leather Design, Textile Design, Knitwear Design departments at NIFT New Delhi. The event is usually packed and witnesses big names from the industry coming to watch the show. An esteemed jury panel judges the show and some of the ramp regulars from the industry turn up to model the designs made by the students of the college. Besides the fashion show, other design-driven events will include Fashion Wall, Fashion M’Bition, Junk Juxtaposed, Shoe Painting, Fashion and Music and Fashion Marathon. The fun category has a number of offbeat events, like the Best Selfie competition, Beg Borrow Steal and Food Eating. The fest also has the usual Ad Mad, Just and Minute, Poster Making competitions and workshops, calling participants from colleges across Delhi.
