Mahindra recalls XUV5OO for upgrading airbag software
Firm is recalling XUV 500 to upgrade the side curtain airbag software on all the models manufactured on or before July 2014
Mumbai: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, India’s largest utility vehicle maker is recalling the XUV 500, its premier sport utility vehicle, to upgrade the side curtain airbag software on all the models manufactured on or before July 2014, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
The upgrade will be carried out free of cost for customers who will be individually contacted by the company. This upgrade will be limited only to a software change and no parts will be replaced, it said.
“As part of Mahindra’s endeavour to ensure a hassle free experience for its customers, the company is proactively upgrading the airbag software. Incidentally, this is also in keeping with SIAM’s voluntary code on vehicle recall," it said.
In November 2014, Mahindra recalled 2,300 units of different variants of Scorpio and XUV500, and multi-purpose vehicle Xylo to rectify a defective vacuum pump in engines manufactured in May this year. It also recalled around 23,000 units of select variants of Scorpio to rectify faulty pressure regulating valves the same year.
Ever since the auto industry body SIAM started voluntary vehicle recall for safety related issues in India in July 2012, more than 700,000 vehicles have been recalled by various manufacturers including Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Toyota, Ford, Honda and General Motors.
