For director Maneesh Sharma, location is a character in his movies. Whether it was New Delhi in Band Baaja Baaraat or Jaipur in Shudh Desi Romance, where the story is set plays an important part in the narrative.

The case is no different for his maiden production venture, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar. This time round, the filmmaker has set the story in Haridwar and Rishikesh.

Apparently, it’s the first time that a Bollywood film has been entirely shot in the twin temple towns. Previously, Subhash Ghai had shot a portion of Kisna - The Warrior Poet in Haridwar.

A production source tells us that the director has a very good understanding of small town sensibilities. Add to that, the characters in his stories are endearing too. Our informer adds, Dum Laga Ke Haisha is a nice coming of age story of Prem (Ayushmann) who feels his wife Sandhya (Bhumi) is oversized and doesn’t make a perfectly matched pair with him. The setting of this story in Haridwar-Rishikesh adds a more rooted emotion to the narrative.”
