House burgled

Miscreants entered the house of Muthu in Valayamadevi village in Attur and decamped with 8.5 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs. 1.5 lakh in cash here on Monday.

The police said that the burglars entered the house by removing the rooftop when the family was away. The Attur police have registered a case and are investigating.

Detained under Goondas Act

G. Sureshkumar (43) of Vellore district, who was involved in cheating women in the name of astrology, was detained under the Goondas Act here on Monday.

Cheating

Posing as astrologer, he cheated six women and robbed them of their jewellery and fled away.

The Ammapet police recently registered a case and arrested him.

Since he was found to be involved in continuous crime activities, based on recommendations from City Police Commissioner A. Amalraj, he was detained under the Act. The detention order was served on him at the Salem Central Prison.
