A highly competitive pricing will be crucial for the Attrage’s success

Despite churning out several plans for the Indian market time and again, Mitsubishi India seldom realised any of them in recent years. Surviving on a single offering the Pajero Sport, the Japanese automaker has now stated that it will be launching the Attrage sedan in India most likely by 2017. Hindustan Motors (HM) that sells Mitsubishi products in the country is currently conducting studies and will accordingly take its decision to launch the Attrage in India.

Based on the Mirage hatchback, the Mitsubishi Attrage sedan will be rivaling the Chevrolet Sail, Toyota Etios, Nissan Sunny and base variants of the Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and the likes. The Attrage will be launched with petrol and diesel engine options under the hood, paired to a manual transmission. No automatic will be on offer though. Much like the international version, features like the automatic climate control, keyless entry, ABS, EBD and dual airbags will be a part of the standard kit.

Speaking of bringing the Mirage to India, HM stated that plans to bring the hatchback were shelved after it wasn’t commercially viable for the company and would face stiff competition from rivals. Mitsubishi had announced last year that it will be launching five new products in the 2014-16 financial year to get the volumes going. After discontinuing the Montero and Outlander SUVs in the country last year, the automaker will be re-launching the models this year soon.
