Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said that the government was duty bound to ensure safety of police officers involved in investigation of cases. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function organised by the district police here on Sunday, Mr. Chennithala said that no police officer in the State should feel insecure as the government would protect the investigating officers from any kind of threat they faced.

He was responding to a question referring to Additional Director General of Police (Vigilance and Anti-Corruption) Jacob Thomas's reported remark that he was facing a threat to his life.

Mr. Chennithala said that the investigating officers could continue to do their duty without fear or interference from others. He said that he had not received any formal complaint from Mr. Thomas so far. The probe into the bar-bribery allegations was continuing, he said adding that the government would not interfere in the investigation process.
