The much awaited Mallikarjuna Mahamandapam and Rajagopuram will be thrown open for public in a month or two. Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam authorities consulted Sringeri Seer Bharati teertha to suggest an auspicious day, muhurtam, for inauguration. The seer suggested that two days --March 29 and April 10 --were auspicious, according to temple Executive Officer Ch. Narsing Rao.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would inaugurate Mallikarjuna Mahamandapam. Purushottama teertha Bharati of Sivaganga peetham, disciple of Sringeri seer, would inaugurate the Rajagopuram, he said adding, the inauguration programme would be finalised depending upon the CM’s appointment.

On lines of Tirumala queue complex

The Mahamandapam at the Kanaga Durga temple has been built on the lines of the Tirumala Vaikuntham queue complex. The temple spent nearly Rs. 25.95 crore on mandapam works, while Rajagopuram cost was Rs. 15.55 crore, he said.

The temple authorities commenced the works in March 2009, and announced that the mahamandampam would be completed in a year. However, the works were not completed according to schedule for various reasons, including contractors’ delay. Similarly, the Rajagopuram was supposed to be completed in one and a half years from February 2009, the year works were commenced.
