The Pattali Makkal Katchi formally announced the party’s youth wing leader and Dharmapuri MP Anbumani Ramadoss as the chief ministerial candidate of the PMK- led front in the 2016 Assembly election in the State.
A resolution was adopted at the State general body meeting of the party held in Salem in the morning and later ratified at the State conference in the evening.
Reiterating that the State needed an ebullient and a strong leader, a resolution adopted at the meeting said Dr. Anbumani alone would prove the best Chief Minister.
“Dr. Anbumani has already proved his skills as a Union Minister for five years. The schemes he brought in as Union Health Minister were hailed not only in India but also the world over,” the resolution said.
Later, speaking at the conference, Dr. Anbumani urged the people to give him a chance. “You gave ample opportunities to both the Dravidian parties, but they did not deliver the goods. Give me a chance and we will prove different ,” he said.
Even without being in power, the PMK had done a lot for the weaker section and poor and downtrodden in the State. “We will bring in novel schemes to solve the problems confronting people,” he said. Calling upon the people and the PMK cadre not to doubt the party’s ability to achieve what it sought to achieve, Dr. Anbumani said the PMK could bring the necessary change.
“The PMK is not craving for power. But we want to lift the State which is in a precarious condition now,” he said.
Dr. Anbumani lashed out at the AIADMK regime for “letting down the people badly.” The PMK, if elected to power, will accord priority to total prohibition, elimination of corruption, health schemes, and free education, he added.
PMK founder S. Ramadoss said that Dr. Anbumani was the best person to provide good governance.
“No other political leader in the State can match him in this aspect,” he said.
