Establish Kittur taluk, govt. urged

February 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - BELAGAVI:

Mahantesh S. Koujalgi, MLC, has urged the State government to establish Kittur taluk which will be carved out of Bailhongal taluk of Belagavi district.

The delay in establishing the new taluk had become a reason for anxiety for the people, he said in a release issued here on Sunday.

The former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, at Kittur Utsav in October, 2012, had announced the creation of the new taluk.

Subsequently, in his budget (2013-14) proposals, he had announced to create 43 new taluks, including Kittur. Later, a special tahsildar was also appointed to look into various aspects of formation of the new taluk. Yet, the proposed taluk was yet to take shape. Mr. Koujalgi recalled that the government had also issued a notification on creation of Kittur taluk on March 15, 2013.
