Akshaypatra to serve mid-day meal to 80,000 needy students in 325 schools in Surat

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today inaugurated the Akshaypatra Foundation’s modern centralized automatic kitchen at Surat to serve steaming hot mid-day nourished meal to over 80,000 needy students in 325 schools of the city. She flagged off the first consignment of food and also served food to the children.

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Patel stressed on the need to serve healthy meal cooked under hygienic condition to the poor children. She praised the role of NGOs and cottage industries in service to the society.

Gujarat becomes the first state in the country to have automatic kitchen in six cities to serve meal to poor school students.

Those present on the occasion included Minister of State for Education Nanubhai Vanani, Mayor Nirnjan Zanzmera, MP Darshanaben Jardosh and C.R> Patil, GHB Chairman Vivek Patel, MLA Janakbhai, Purneshbhai Modi, ONGC HR Alok Mishra, Collector Rajendra Kumar among others.
