Minister performs bhoomi puja for hockey stadium

The facility, with synthetic turf, to cost Rs. 7 crore

Kovilpatti is all set to have a synthetic hockey stadium. Tourism Minister S.P. Shanmuganathan performed bhoomi puja in the presence of Collector M. Ravikumar for construction of the stadium on a par with international standards.

The much awaited hockey stadium announced by Chief Minister would be established at a cost of Rs.7 crore as per the regulations of International Hockey Federation, the Minister said.

The stadium with synthetic turf and other key infrastructure facilities would come up on a sprawling 17-acre land on the foothills of Kathiresan Temple at Alampatti village in Kovilpatti.

The stadium with floodlights would be built within six months.

Many players representing India at international hockey tournaments hailed from Kovilpatti. Regional Senior Manager of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, S.Tamilselvan. Kovilpatti Sub Collector Kannabiran, District Sports Officer K. Xavier Jothi Sargunam and local body representatives attended.
