The Hassan City police on Saturday took Janekere Hemanth, president of the district unit of Srirama Sene, into preventive custody, following his campaign against the Valentine’s Day celebrations.
In addition, three more persons, stated to be associates of Mr. Hemanth, were also taken to preventive custody from the Maharaja’s Park in the heart of the city. However, it wais said that Mr. Hemanth and his associates had objected to young couples spending time in the park and that had resulted in a clash.
The police reached the spot and took them to custody. Narendra Kumar, Hassan City police sub-inspector, told The Hindu that the arrested had declared to stop people from celebrating Valentine’s Day.
