CPI’s first State conference to dwell on Left unity

February 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - Hyderabad:

The first Telengana State conference of Communist Party of India (CPI) beginning on March 7 at Khammam will deliberate on rejuvenating the party from the grassroots and reconnecting with the people.

The four-day conference will also take stock of the reasons for its failure in the general elections and discuss the need for forging Left unity.

Party State secretary, Chada Venkat Reddy, told presspersons on Saturday that the conference would review the performance of the TRS government in the last few months. Instead of fulfilling its poll promises, the government was announcing new programmes. The BJP government at the Centre too was a big disappointment with the ‘good days’ not to be seen.

Mr. Reddy said during the last few months the CPI and CPI (M) had held a number of meetings with a view to build Left unity.

The CPI, on its part, had been eliciting views and suggestions from intellectuals and others on how best to strengthen its base. Many felt that the party ought to involve youth, students and women in its activities. There was a feeling that the CPI launched many movements on public issues affecting the working class, but did not sustain them. The Left unity also did not reflect in the programmes taken up by the parties, some felt.
