Hands-on workshops held for special surgical procedures

The three-day State Orthopaedic Surgeons’ conference in progress in the city discussed the need to facilitate orthopaedic surgeons to update their skills in keeping with the current trends in the field.

Research discussions on latest developments enlightened the professionals on improving their surgical and therapeutic skills.

The conference was organised by Midwest Ortho Society, a professional society of orthopaedic surgeons of Salem, Namakkal and Dharmapuri districts.

A.S. Ganesan, Chancellor of Salem Vinayaga Mission University, in his inaugural address said that according to reports more than five lakh road accidents were reported in the country every year.

He underlined the need for providing quality treatment at reasonable cost to the people who suffered injuries in the accidents.

Sudhir K. Kapur of Orthopaedic Association, released the journal brought out in connection with the conference and A. Amalraj, City Police Commissioner, received the first copy.

Nalli Uvaraj, president, Tamil Nadu Orthopaedic Association (TNOA), presided over the inaugural. Muthuraman, secretary of the association, presented the report.

K. Yusuff Basha, Managing Director, KMB Group of Companies, and Sarathy Chettiyar, Chairman, Narasus Sarathy Institute of Technology, participated in the inaugural.

According to K. Prakasam, organising chairman of the conference, about 1,000 surgeons have registered for the conference.

Nearly 300 international, national and state faculty will deliver lectures on various orthopaedic-related topics.

Hands-on workshops on rare and special surgical procedures – for the surgeons to experience and learn the techniques – formed part of the conference.
