15 artisans presented State Award

SRINAGAR, Feb 14: 15 renowned artisans were presented State Awards by the Government for their contribution in rejuvenating the Handicraft Industry in the State.
Financial Commissioner Industries and Commerce, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai presented cheques worth Rs. 5 lakh to the Artisans along with shawls and mementos.
Cheques worth Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 were presented among the award winning artisans.
Earlier, Mr. Ganai chaired a review meeting of Handicrafts Department and received brief on the progress achieved under various programmes run by the department for the welfare of the artisans and development and promotion of the handicrafts sector in the State.
To assess the quality of raw material being provided to carpet weavers and other artisans, the Financial Commissioner recommended constitution of an Advisory Committee headed by the Director Handicrafts which shall submit its recommendations to the Government.
Mr. Ganai said that age old tradition of carpet weaving and other handicrafts of the Jammu and Kashmir should be preserved in its original form and appeal regarding which government is making sincere efforts.
Director Handicrafts, Director Handloom, Director Industries & Commerce Kashmir, other officers and representatives of Chamber and Commerce were present on the occasion.
