“Insaan ka insaan se ho bhaichaara, yahi paighaam hamaara, yahi paighaam hamaara,” sang Delhi’s newly sworn-in Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal while concluding his speech at the Ramlila Maidan on Saturday.
The raga was the mellow Asavari. Though many present at the venue — over a lakh — did not know this, they hummed along with much gusto.
Kejriwal had sung the same song during the swearing-in ceremony on December 28, 2013.

But this time he announced, “I don’t sing very well and have a really sore throat”.
The song was penned by Kavi Pradeep, the man known for his mastery of patriotic lyrics (he also wrote aye mere watan ke logon) and was composed by legendary composer C Ramachandra and sung by Manna Dey.
The melody from Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala starrer Paigham had acquired a legendary status when it released in a newly Partitioned nation in 1952.
People had then called it “the socialist’s song”. Coincidentally, in the Gemini Pictures production too, the song is a concluding piece, played at the end of amicable settlements of various issues and revolutions.
