Difficulties hit RoB construction
Though with the raising of pillars, the construction of railway over bridge (RoB) has gained momentum, but still there are several hurdles coming in the way of its early completion. For instance, at present, a portion of the Dada Nagar bridge has been closed by the railways for repairs.
After the repairs are completed, expectedly by the mid-April, then only UP Bridge Corporation will be able to construct slabs of the bridge at its Fazalganj and Govind Nagar ends.
And, for carrying out this major task, the movement of four-wheelers has to be suspended. In that case, the Kanpurites will only have the option to reach the north city from south end.
But, both Dada Nagar and Govindpuri bridges cannot be closed at the same time for vehicular movement. Already, the traffic movement has been affected due to the closure of one road of the Dada Nagar bridge.
Sant Raj, project manager, UP Bridge Corporation talking to TOI said, “We have begun the work of construction of pillars at Govind Nagar end. A total of eight pillars have to be raised. The buildings and houses coming in the way of the bridge have been demolished. Only a single building is left to be demolished.”
The work of construction of a pillar and laying of slabs has been stopped at present at the Fazalganj end of the bridge, and it cannot be taken foward as repairs of the bridge are in progress, he said. The work of raising pillars and constructing slabs cannot be done at present due to delay in repair work, he added.
When asked about the tentative date of construction of the new bridge connecting Kanpur South with rest of the city, the project manager said that the new bridge would be completed within a year if the repair work at Dada Nagar bridge comes to an end by April 15.
