Taking a cab? Send us the driver’s photo, Haryana cops tell women

The advisory, released on the eve of Valentine’s Day, has been issued by Gurgaon Commissioner of Police Navdeep Singh Virk. “In case they need any help, women can also call the police at 100 or 1091,” Singh added.

Last year, senior IPS officer of the Haryana cadre, Ashwin Shenvi, who was heading the Hisar district police, had issued instructions to all cab operators to first take two passport size photographs of the passenger and record journey details before allowing a cab to be hired.

The latest advisory also has a tip for those stepping out for a party on February 14: Carry your ID card with you. An advisory to club owners/managers reads: “Sufficient and trained security guards, instead of bouncers, should be hired from licensed private security agencies especially for Valentine’s Day functions. ID card of each individual should be checked. In addition, proper CCTV coverage of the premises should be ensured.”

Police check posts would also be set up across Gurgaon on Friday. A police spokesperson said, “Special check points would be set up to check traffic violations, especially cases of drunken driving.”

The Haryana Police has also warned hotel/restaurant management not to serve liquor after permissible hours. “Special joint teams of revenue excise and police officials have been formed to check all such violations and take strictest possible action,” the police advisory reads.
