Court denies anticipatory bail to corporator, principal in forgery case

A Sessions Court on Friday rejected the anticipatory bail applications of Congress corporator from Dongri Dnyanraj Nikam and Dilip Pardhi, the principal of Dongri Municipal School. Both had been booked for cheating and forgery.

In his complaint, Shiv Sena’s Amit Sakharkar claimed Nikam has been a Maratha all throughout his life, while the Dongri ward had been reserved for OBC candidates in the previous municipal elections.

The complaint alleged he had taken Pardhi’s help to forge records of his deceased uncle Thakoji Nikam to change his caste from Maratha to Hindu Gabit. Pardhi then allegedly issued a bogus certificate, on the basis of which Dnyanraj Nikam obtained a caste certificate. He then allegedly contested the elections fraudulently and won against Sakharkar.

Sakharkar then claimed he complained to the police and even produced the original school-leaving certificate of the deceased Thakoji Nikam from Sindhudurg, which shows him to be Maratha, but Dongri police allegedly declined to act on it.

A complaint was then filed before a magistrate who ordered an FIR to be registered against both of them under IPC sections 120-B, 420, 465, 468 & 471 among others.

The duo approached the Sessions Court against this, which rejected their anticipatory bail pleas. MMB
