Senate elections, phase for submitting nomination papers concludes

22 candidates submitted their nomination papers to contest for Punjab's 11 seats of Senate.

LAHORE (Dunya news) – The phase for submitting nomination papers for the upcoming Senate elections concluded on Friday. A total of 185 candidates from the 4 provinces including Islamabad and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) were seen. 92 candidates submitted their nomination papers in Islamabad on the last day. 9 candidates from the Federal capital and 43 candidates from FATA were seen for the Senate elections.


According to the details, a total of 22 candidates submitted their nomination papers to contest for Punjab’s 11 seats of Senate. Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) further 3 candidates submitted their nomination papers for 11 seats of Senate for Sindh. On the other hand, 1 candidate from Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Muslim League Functional’s (PML-F) 2 candidates handed in their nomination papers for seats of Senate in Sindh. 40 candidates stood for 12 seats of the Senate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).


Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Siraj-ul-Haq is also included in the race for Senate for KP. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also issued a ticket to Chief Minister (CM) KP Pervaiz Khattak’s son in law Adnan Khan Khattak.


More than 30 candidates submitted their nomination papers on the last day to contest Balochistan’s 12 seats of Senate. These included Abdul Ghaffoor Haideri , Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, Yaqoob Nasir and Mir Haasil Bazinjo
