Kenya: President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday said those behind the killing of Kabete MP George Muchai, his two aides and driver would be apprehended to face the law.

"As a government, we are not going back on this issue. They should know that they did not gain anything," said Uhuru yesterday during the requiem mass at St Joseph Secondary School in Kanyariri, Kabete constituency.

The President said that even though Muchai is dead, his legacy and the fight against impunity and corruption would not stop.

He said the nation had lost a great leader who would be remembered for many years for his fight for the welfare of workers and Kabete constituents whom he represented for two years.

Uhuru urged the nation to remain strong and stand for the truth in whatever circumstances.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi eulogised Muchai as a great debater in Parliament.

He said before Muchai died, he had raised concerns with him on security of MPs, some of which were being addressed.

Pray for leaders

Majority Leader Aden Duale said Muturi's death was very unfortunate that the two MPs that the Jubilee coalition had lost in this term were both from Kiambu County and urged all to pray for leaders.

Duale, at the same time, urged Christians to stop politicking during funerals.

"It's only clerics who are allowed to speak during the burial of any Muslim and nobody else. I think Christian too should emulate that," said Duale, who eulogised Muchai as a leader who stood his ground for truth of his people.

Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi, who was the burial committee chairman, announced that his committee will travel to Meru on Saturday to bury one of the slain bodyguards. On Monday they will go to Transmara to bury the other and on Tuesday to Mukurwe-ini to bury the driver.

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and 26 MPs from across the political divide attended the requiem mass.

The late Muchai will be laid to rest today in his Kamulu home. He is survived by his wife Susan Nyawira Muchai and seven children.
