Kanimozhi accuses AIADMK of bribing voters in Srirangam
COIMBATORE/CHENNAI: DMK women's wing secretary Kanimozhi on Thursday accused the ruling AIADMK of bribing of voters in Srirangam. The Rajya Sabha MP, who was in Coimbatore to review arrangements for the party's Women's Day celebrations, came down heavily on AIADMK, alleging that it had thrown all election rules into the wind. Officials did nothing to prevent the money distribution, she charged.
"Many bogus voters were included on the voters' list and despite complaints to the Election Commission, the discrepancy was not set right," she charged. She lashed out at the state government saying there was a policy paralysis and all developmental activities have come to a standstill. The government was being run through a "benami," she charged.
BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan on Thursday questioned AIADMK chief J Jayalalitha's appeal to the people to treat the votes cast for the party as the votes cast in her favour. "When the bypoll is being held because she was convicted in a disproportionate assets case, how can she claim that she herself is contesting," Tamilisai asked at a media interaction in Chennai.
Reacting to Jayalalithaa's charge that her conviction was a plot hatched by her rivals, Tamilisai said, "People should judge for themselves as the case against her has been going on for the past 18 years".
