MUMBAI: Open spaces in South Mumbai like Oval Maidan, the Race Course ground and Azad Maidan will have to give up some space temporarily for tunneling-related work to build underground Metro stations.
Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) has said seven land parcels have been identified for the work. An MMRCL official said, “The land parcel will be restored to its original state once the work is completed.
Apart form digging work, the land parcels are required for construction, storage of material, muck etc.”
Many private properties will also have to share their open space for construction work. For example, on Jamshedji Tata road, Petroleum House and Ritz Hotel will have to temporarily give up their compound space. Political parties have already agreed to vacate their offices in Nariman point for the Vidhan Bhavan Metro station, and will be rehabilitated elsewhere by MMRCL.
