Ten years ago, Kausalya heaved a sigh of relief when she closed down her extremely successful Perks Catering. The constant stress of monitoring, delivering and maintaining a top-notch catering business got to her after all those years, and she wanted to move on. But, they were famous last words. “Here I am again back in the food business,” laughs Kausalya. She along with her sister Usha have just driven up in The Food Truck.

Look out for the big red, truck at Race Course this evening from 7 p.m. onwards, says Kausalya. It will dish out pan Asian and South Indian fare. Giving a peek into the menu, Kausalya says it will include dosa wraps, parottas, biriyani, etc.

“The idea is new. I hope it is a success,” says Usha. They will take the truck where are large crowds such as schools, colleges, factories, etc. “We drive up to the venue and then and there cook and serve hot and tasty food.”

The truck had its first outing at SSVM School, Mettupalayam. Kausalya reports happily that “It was a hit. Nearly 2,000 people were there. We were sold out. There were three buffet counters, besides starters and beverages. And the people and the management were most appreciative,”

The state-of the-art food truck has already seen business in Patiala with their friend. “He wanted to sell the truck, and we thought ‘why not us?’, says Usha.

It is early days yet, Usha and Kausalya hope to find out what Coimbatoreans really want. “The old timers already know about Perks Catering and the kind of quality food I served. This is going to be an extension of that. It will be the best one can get. And perhaps, a combination of local cuisine, and once in a while, something North Indian. We will see how it goes,” says Kausalya.

Several experienced chefs are involved and with Kausalya’s considerable expertise in the world of food, she is confident that there will be no shortcomings on quality.

Besides the mobile truck, the sisters also undertake bespoke banquets. For events upwards of 50 people, they will plan and execute meals. “We can customise the menu and not just deliver the food, but even serve it in a befitting manner. It can be any cuisine,” says Kausalya. Like it was with Perks Catering, the Food Truck will maintain uncompromising hygiene and top-notch quality.

Kausalya and Usha want to make other women a part of their food truck success story. “We are happy to provide a platform to homemakers who are good at something special they make. Of course, we will screen and do the due diligence before we provide a platform to them to sell their speciality through foodtruck,” Kausalya says.
