One injured as train hits tractor at level crossing in Junagadh

Junagadh taluka police said the incident took place when Khijadiya-Junagadh local train was on its way to Junagadh.

A man was injured as a tractor-trailer collided with a passenger train at an unmanned railway crossing near Plasva village, some six kilometres south of Junagadh city, in Junagadh district early on Wednesday.

Junagadh taluka police said the incident took place when Khijadiya-Junagadh local train was on its way to Junagadh. The train hit the tractor-trailer as its driver Yuvraj Bavku failed to clear the level-crossing in time.

“The tractor driver and another man sitting with him, identified as Sanjay Rathod (22), were thrown away from their vehicle upon impact.

While Yuvraj escaped unhurt, Rathod sustained minor injuries. He was rushed to a government hospital in Junagadh by an ambulance of state emergency service,” Junagadh taluka police sub-inspector Shaktisinh Gohil told The Indian Express.

The PSI further said that the tractor trailer was loaded with soil. After halting briefly, the train resumed its journey.

Festive offer

The Junagadh taluka police have transferred the case to railway police for further investigation.

The Railway police in Junagadh later arrested tractor driver Bavku. “While the driver jumped off before the train hit, Rathod, a labourer, could not and therefore sustained injuries. The collision cut the trailer in two and therefore train had to be halted for 52 minutes. We have arrested Vala,” railway police sub-inspector of Junagadh, Narendrasinh Jakhar said.
