Displeasures of people on the steps taken by officials of various departments to control the spread of various viral diseases in Tirupur city and its immediate suburbs, were mounting day by day.
Large numbers of city residents were of the opinion that the officials were not carrying out vector control and other preventive measures.
“Whenever a senior official plans to visit any particular area, the local officials immediately do the cleaning and other disease preventing measures on the previous day, S, Bhaktavalsalam, a resident of Parapalayam where a child died of viral disease, told The Hindu.
Alleging that the steps taken to control the spread of viral diseases in the city were inadequate, the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam members staged a demonstration here on Monday. Meanwhile, the district administration widened the distribution of 'nilavembu'. The people who came to attend this week’s grievances redressal meeting at Collectorate were given 'nilavembu' free-of-cost. Deputy Director of Public Health R. Ragupathy told The Hindu that since January 1, around 80 cases of dengue were detected in the district and of them, two died.
