Jitu Rai wins 50m pistol gold

Jitu Rai asserted his class once again as he won the men’s 50-metre free pistol gold in the 15th Kumar Surendra Singh shooting championship here on Wednesday.

The roles were reversed as the National Games gold medallist in the event, Prakash Nanjappa slipped to the third place, while Jitu Rai jumped from third to the top as he beat Deepak Sharma by 5.2 points.

In women’s 25-metre sports pistol, Shreya Gawande defeated Shweta Singh 7-1 in the gold contest while Surabhi Pathak got the better of the seasoned Anisa Sayyed 8-2 for the bronze.

Men: 50m free pistol: 1. Jitu Rai 194 (556); 2. Deepak Sharma 189.2 (550); 3. Prakash Nanjappa 169.7 (552).

Women: 25m sports pistol: 1. Shreya Gawande 7 (13) 569; 2. Shweta Singh 1 (15) 567; 3. Surabhi Pathak 8 (10) 578; 4. Anisa Sayyed 2 (12) 576.

Juniors: 1. Shreya Gawande 569; 2. Chinki Yadav 563; 3. Saee Ashok Godbole 561.
