Teen held for rape of minor at Dahisar
MUMBAI: A 19-year-old youth was arrested by the Dahisar police on Tuesday on charges of sexually abusing a minor. The accused, Rafiq Qureshi, used to live in the same neighbourhood as the girl in the Shantinagar Dongri slums, before moving to Nala Sopara. On Monday, he was visiting the slum colony in Dahisar East, when he noticed the 10-year-old victim.

"The incident took place around 3.20pm. The victim was playing with a litter of pups in the slum. Qureshi summoned her to fetch him a mat and led her to a desolate corner of the slum. After sexually abusing the girl and threatening her, he fled from the slum. The girl later narrated everything to her parents who lodged a complaint with us," an official from the Dahisar police station said.
The victim was acquainted with Qureshi. After questioning other local residents, the police traced Qureshi and took him into custody on Tuesday. He was booked under sections 376 and 506 of IPC besides provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Police officials said Qureshi does odd jobs for a living.
