Sumona Chakravarti: A visit to the Nahargarh Fort gave me a high
Television actress Sumona Chakravarti, who plays Kapil Sharma’s wife Manju on Comedy Nights With Kapil, was recently in town for a vacation.
She spent her time exploring the city, and had a blast with her college friend Shreya Juneja who is also from Jaipur. Sumona says, “This is my maiden trip to Rajasthan and I’m so amazed to see its beauty. It’s completely different from the other states of our country.
I have known Shreya since eight years, and she invited me to visit Jaipur many a time, but I couldn’t make it. Now I regret not coming here earlier.”

The actress visited all the historical places in the city, but a visit to the Nahargarh Fort gave her a high. “We went to the topmost point of the fort and witnessed a beautiful sunset. The spectacular look of the entire town from the top was a scene to behold. I also got my picture clicked there and now it has become my Facebook cover picture,” she says.
While Sumona was exploring the fort, one of her fans recognized her. “I was trying my best to hide myself with big shades. But a boy recognized me and came up. I was busy posing for a picture near a huge canon when he told me, ‘
aap Comedy Nights waali Sumona ho na?’ When I denied it he said ‘nahi aap Sumona hi ho, jhoonth kyun bol rahi ho’,” she says, adding, “I am going back with loads of memories, not to forget loads of added pounds, as I was eating all the time. Rajasthani food is so delicious that no one can control themselves.”
Though the actress has appeared in a few others shows, she is popular as Kapil’s wife, but doesn’t like to be treated as such in real life. “When I was boarding my flight to Jaipur from Mumbai, one of the crew attendants said, ‘Hello ma’am! Abhi abhi aapke husband Kapil Sharma ne bhi same flight mein hi check-in kiya hai!’ I was shocked that even educated people do not know that we are just onscreen husband and wife. But I’m used to it,” she says.
She recently visited Paris and Amsterdam, and has fallen in love with art. “I went to London for the shoot of a film. Since it was my first trip to Europe I thought I should visit other places, too. So I saw France and the Netherlands. I saw the Louvre Museum in Paris and the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. Though I hardly know anything about art, that trip made me fall in love with it. And my Jaipur trip is an extension of that,” she explains.
