Two-wheelers will be allotted exclusive bay on the newly opened approach road to the Arayidathupalam bridge in the city.
This was announced by Public Works Minister V.K. Ebrahim Kunju during the inauguration of the approach road on Tuesday.
Sum for the project
A sum of Rs.3.65 crore was spent for the project. Minister for Panchayats and Social Justice M.K. Muneer, who was instrumental in reinitiating the project, was present at the inaugural function.
The project has been in limbo although an over-bridge named after the former Chief Minister E.K. Nayanar came into being at the busy Arayidathupalam junction five years ago. This was attributed to the delay in constructing an approach road to the parallel bridge across the Canolly canal.
The bridge, constructed along the Mavoor road route from the city to Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital, was necessitated following the traffic congestion.
Now the commissioning of the road will ease the traffic snarls. Vehicles could easily take the route to proceed to Puthiyara and Palayam sides.
Projects
Speaking on the occasion , Mr. Kunju also said the work on the six roads envisaged under the Kozhikode City Road Development Project would begin in March.
These roads would be similar to the ones in Thiruvananthapuram city.
The approach road to Kothi bridge will be inaugurated in August.
Likewise the Panniyankara over-bridge is expected to be commissioned by October, the Minister said.
